Austen grew up in Gig Harbor, Washington playing sports and doing just about anything outdoors. After turning 21, he developed an interest in working in the wine industry. He got started while living at home that summer at a winery in his hometown—Mosquito Fleet. One day Austen struck up a conversation with a visitor and mentioned that he’d be returning to Boise soon. That visitor happened to be one of Telaya’s grape growers, and he convinced Austen that Telaya was the place for him. Even though Austen dropped off his resume in flip flops, The Telaya Team instantly agreed after meeting him, and he’s been a part of the family ever since! These days Austen’s favorite activities include golfing, watching football and keeping his coworkers young with his “culture talks.” His favorite Telaya wine is the 2019 Shaw Stanton Petit Verdot, and he encourages you to come try a glass of it and learn more about what he’s been up to lately. ​
