For the first time in five years, the No. 1 wine at the Cascadia was not from Idaho. However, Gem State winemakers and growers teamed up to mine 24 gold medals throughout the judging.

Those results continue to reflect not only terroir and site selection but also talent and investment, a combination exemplified by the husband-wife team of Telaya Wine Co. Earl and Carrie Sullivan’s devotion to Discovery Vineyard in Washington’s Horse Heaven Hills means a 300-mile truck ride back to their winery, but they crafted those grapes from the 2022 vintage into the Best Cabernet Sauvignon of the 2025 Cascadia International, winning a double gold medal along the way. Three years ago, Telaya won best-of-show honors at the Cascadia with a Syrah from Snake River Valley icon Sawtooth Vineyard.
